What is a .solutions domain?
The .solutions domain frames your business as the fix to someone's problem. IT solutions providers, business process consultants, and HR advisory firms all benefit from a domain that goes beyond describing what you sell and starts describing what you achieve. Clients looking for solutions want a partner, and this domain positions you as exactly that.
Who should register .solutions?
IT solutions providers, business process consultants, HR advisory firms, and problem-solving service companies.
Why choose .solutions?
- Frames you as the answer

Does a .solutions domain help you rank in Google?
A fair number of people buy a keyword extension because they expect the keyword to do something in search. It will not. Google answered this directly in July 2015 and has never revised the answer: new generic extensions are handled the same way as .com and .org, and a word in the extension gives no ranking advantage and no ranking penalty. Anyone selling you a .solutions domain on the promise of ranking for the word solutions is selling you something Google has publicly said does not exist.
What the word does buy is a human signal, which is a smaller claim but a true one. On a business card, in an email signature or read out in a meeting, yourfirm.solutions tells a listener the shape of the business before they have seen a single page. That is worth something in consultancy, managed IT and process work, where the buyer is a procurement team or an IT manager who reads this vocabulary every working day.
The word does half the work and carries half the risk
Solutions is also one of the most mocked words in British business writing, and that cuts both ways. To an IT director it is neutral and expected. To a homeowner looking for someone to fix a boiler it reads as a firm trying to sound bigger than it is. Decide which of those two you are selling to before you commit, because the extension will sit on your invoices for years. It is also nine letters to spell out on the phone, and there is no singular .solution in the root zone to catch anyone who guesses wrong.
The history is worth a line. This was among the very first of the new generic extensions to reach the root zone, delegated on 19 December 2013 under a registry agreement signed on 7 November 2013, ahead of .services and well ahead of .team. The operator on record at IANA is Binky Moon, LLC, part of Identity Digital, and the contract is base and non-sponsored with no eligibility criteria whatsoever. One reason older write-ups contradict each other on who runs it: the company that built this family of keyword extensions was called Donuts, it merged with Afilias, and the two rebranded as Identity Digital on 22 June 2022. Binky Moon is still the name on the ICANN paperwork. If your buyers are UK consumers rather than other businesses, register the .co.uk instead and spend the difference on something that moves the needle.
Is .solutions the right choice for you?
We would rather sell you the right extension once than the wrong one twice.
.solutions works well if
- You sell consultancy, managed IT or process work, and solutions is already the word your own proposals use for what you deliver.
- The company name alone is too vague to work as a domain, and adding the word makes it read as a business rather than a stray noun.
- You want one address covering software, hardware and advisory work without tying the brand to any single one of them.
- Your buyers are procurement teams and IT managers who read this vocabulary daily and will not think twice about it.
Look elsewhere if
- You are hoping the keyword lifts you in search. Google has said extensions carry no ranking weight either way, so that reason does not survive contact with the evidence.
- You sell to consumers. Solutions is boardroom vocabulary, and a domestic customer is more likely to trust a plain .co.uk on a quote.
- Nine letters to spell out over the phone, with no singular .solution in the root zone to catch anyone who guesses wrong.
- It costs around three times a .co.uk each year and does nothing for you in UK local search to justify the difference.
Selling to UK customers who search by town or county? A .co.uk does more for local visibility and costs far less. See .co.uk pricing.
.solutions vs .com: which should you register?
This is the comparison most buyers are really making, and availability usually settles it. A two word .com in an established sector went years ago, so the honest choice is between a short .solutions that says what you do and a longer .com that says nothing but is what people type by reflex.
Where .com wins: recognition, the default typing habit of almost every internet user, and a lower annual price. It also carries no assumption about your sector, which matters if the business changes shape. Where .solutions wins: availability at a sensible length, and a description built into the address for buyers who already use that language.
Neither one helps you rank. Google treats both as generic and the keyword in the extension does nothing, so pick on brand and budget rather than on search. If the business will still be trading in fifteen years, the safer answer is the .com with the .solutions redirecting to it.
| .solutions | .com | |
|---|---|---|
| Type | Generic, keyword extension | Generic, no meaning attached |

| Short names left | Plenty in most sectors | Very few without hyphens |

.solutions domain questions, answered
What people ask us before registering a .solutions domain.
Can't find what you're looking for?
Ask us directlyIt is neutral. Google published its position on new generic extensions in July 2015: they are treated like .com and .org, and keywords in the extension give no advantage or disadvantage in search. There is no hidden penalty either, which is the other half of the myth. What actually moves UK rankings is a country-code domain, because Google reads that as a strong signal the site is meant for a particular country, and .solutions is not one.
Anyone, anywhere, with no checks. The ICANN registry agreement is a base, non-sponsored contract with no eligibility specification, and it commits the operator to keeping second level registrations open and available to lawful registrants. You do not need to be an IT company, a consultancy or a registered business of any kind. The only names you cannot have are the reserved ones: two character labels, country and territory names, and whatever the registry holds back as premium inventory.
No. Only the plural .solutions exists in the root zone, so a visitor who types the singular gets an error rather than another company's website. That is the better failure of the two, but it is still a visitor you have lost. If you go with this extension, say the word clearly when reading the address aloud and put it in full on printed material rather than assuming people will hear the s on the end.
For a consumer-facing trade, yes, and that deserves saying plainly. Solutions is the language of tenders and procurement, and a customer looking for a local plumber or hairdresser reads it as a firm dressing up. A two-person IT consultancy selling to other businesses carries it perfectly well. The test is whether the word already appears in the documents you send clients. If it does not, the extension is doing work your business has not asked for.
It renews at the standard annual price shown on this page unless the specific name is classed as premium by the registry. ICANN rules require the registry to give 180 days notice before raising renewal prices, and renewals must be priced uniformly across the extension, with a higher premium renewal allowed only where the registrant agreed to it clearly at first registration. Registering for several years at once fixes the rate for that period.
You can, using proper 301 redirects from every old address to its new one, but expect a settling period rather than a clean handover. Google has said site moves take time to work through search and that it is best to pick a domain suiting your long-term needs in the first place. Email is the part people forget: addresses on the old domain need to keep working long after the website has moved, so keep the old registration alive.
