What a .careers domain really costs a recruiter
Start with the number, because it decides this one. A .careers domain is the dearest extension in this category by a wide margin, several times what a .co.uk costs, and a domain is not a purchase, it is a subscription you pay for as long as the business exists. Across ten years that difference is real money for a small agency, and it buys no ranking advantage at all.
With that said, the extension does something no general-purpose address can. It was delegated in December 2013 in the first wave of new gTLDs and now sits with Identity Digital through Binky Moon. Nobody registers one by accident. .careers vs .jobs: which should you register?
The other recruitment address is .jobs, and it is a different animal. IANA records it as a sponsored top-level domain, run by Employ Media and in the root zone since September 2005, where .careers is an ordinary generic extension anyone can buy. Sponsored means the extension exists to serve a defined community rather than the open market.
On price, .jobs is the dearer of the two at our current rates and its transfer fee is higher again. On availability, .careers arrived nearly a decade later, so a great deal more of it is still unregistered.
