What is a .partners domain?
The .partners domain works for law firms, accounting partnerships, channel partner programmes, and business alliances. It implies collaboration at a structural level: not just working together, but being legally or commercially bound. Partner programmes from tech companies use it for their channel and reseller portals.

Why .partners carries no legal meaning
Two very different businesses buy this extension. One is a professional practice where the partners are the firm: solicitors, accountants, surveyors, architects. The other is a technology company running a reseller channel, where vendor.partners is the portal resellers log into. The word does opposite work in each case and both uses are fair.
The legal position is worth a paragraph, because people tend to assume the reverse. UK regulations do control certain words in a business name: "limited liability partnership" and "LLP" appear on the specified list, as do "limited", "ltd", "public limited company" and "plc". The bare word "partners" does not. So a .partners domain makes no legal claim about your structure and holding one does not require you to be a partnership. It also gives a visitor no assurance that you are one, which is worth remembering when you are the client rather than the firm.
Price is the practical objection. .partners is the second dearest extension on this batch of pages, several times a .co.uk, and it renews at that level every year. For a two-partner practice with a plain name, that is money set against a benefit nobody can measure.
Where it clearly justifies the cost is the channel portal. A separate domain for partner logins keeps the reseller estate off the main marketing site, and the word tells a reseller at a glance that they are in the right place. That is a job a .co.uk can only do through a subdomain nobody remembers.
Is .partners the right choice for you?
We would rather sell you the right extension once than the wrong one twice.
.partners works well if
- Partners are the firm, so the address matches how a professional practice already describes itself in its own letterhead.
- You run a reseller or referral programme and want the partner portal on its own domain, away from the marketing site.
- Your practice name is short and adding the word after the dot removes it from the front, shortening the whole address.
- You want an address that reads as a firm of people rather than as a company, which suits advisory work where the individuals matter.
Look elsewhere if
- Cost. This is the second most expensive extension on this batch of pages, several times a .co.uk, and it repeats annually.
- It proves nothing. A sole trader can hold it, so a client cannot read it as evidence of a partnership or of professional standing.
- Your clients are UK consumers who search locally, where a .co.uk carries a geographic signal that this extension does not.
A small UK practice on a tight budget? The .co.uk costs a fraction of this and is what your clients already expect. See .co.uk pricing.
.partners vs .com: which should you register?
A .com is open to anyone, recognised everywhere and much cheaper here, so the honest starting position is that a .partners has to earn the difference. It earns it in one of two ways: by making a short address possible where the .com of the same name has gone, or by carving out a portal that is obviously separate from the main site.
That second use is the strongest case. A vendor running a channel programme wants resellers to land somewhere that is not the marketing site, with its own login, its own branding and its own release cadence. vendor.partners does that in a way partners.vendor.com never quite manages, because people read the last part of an address first.
For a professional practice the calculation is different. If the .com of your firm name is available, take it. If it is not, .partners is a better fallback than adding "llp" or "group" to a .com and hoping people remember which.

.partners domain questions, answered
What people ask us before registering a .partners domain.
Can't find what you're looking for?
Ask us directlyNo. There is no eligibility rule and the registry checks nothing about your structure, so a limited company, a sole trader or an individual can register one. UK regulations control words such as "limited liability partnership" and "LLP" in a trading name, but not the plain word "partners", so the domain carries no legal claim in either direction and creates no obligation.
The registry prices it that way, and nothing technical justifies the difference. Resolution, DNSSEC, mail records and certificates behave identically to the cheapest extension we sell. For a small practice the fair test is whether the address will earn several times a .co.uk every year for the next decade. If the honest answer is that the .co.uk would have done, buy the .co.uk.
It suits a firm whose name already ends in Partners, where the domain becomes the firm name with the space removed. It is weaker for a practice named after a place or a specialism, where it adds cost without adding meaning. Whatever you choose, UK clients expect a .co.uk from a British firm and many will type one by reflex, so hold it as well and redirect.
Yes, and it is the use case where this extension is at its strongest. A separate domain gives the partner portal its own home, its own certificate and its own deployment schedule, and resellers recognise the address instantly. Bear in mind it is a separate origin from your main site, so single sign-on and shared sessions between the two need configuring rather than coming free as they would on a subdomain.
