What is a .industries domain?
The .industries domain works for manufacturers, industrial conglomerates, and heavy-industry firms. It carries the plural form deliberately: "industries" implies breadth and scale across multiple production lines or sectors. Steel fabricators, chemical processors, and industrial equipment manufacturers all get a domain that matches the weight of their operations.
Who should register .industries?
Manufacturing firms, industrial conglomerates, steel fabricators, and chemical processing companies.
Why choose .industries?

Why .industries suits firms already named Industries
The plural is the point. A great many firms are incorporated as something Industries: Hanson Industries, Meyer Industries, Clark Industries. For any of them hanson.industries is not a clever domain trick, it is the registered name with a dot dropped into the middle of it. That is a narrow use case, and this extension is at its best when it serves it.
Outside that, it is a harder sell than the marketing suggests. Ten letters is a lot to carry, and the word is awkward to say once. Three syllables and a trailing S that people drop means "dot industry" is what comes back down the phone, and that address goes nowhere. Test it on somebody before you print it.
It arrived in February 2014, in the first wave of new generic extensions, delegated to Outer House LLC and now run by Binky Moon as part of Identity Digital. No eligibility rule has ever been attached. The registry agreement commits the operator to keeping registrations open and available to lawful registrants, so a florist, a software house or a private individual can hold one. The industrial association lives in the dictionary, not in policy, and it gives a visitor no assurance about who is behind the site.
Register it when your legal name ends in Industries and the matching .co.uk has gone or reads badly. Leave it alone if you simply make things. A manufacturer with a clean .co.uk gains nothing by moving, and loses the UK search signal that .co.uk carries.
Is .industries the right choice for you?
We would rather sell you the right extension once than the wrong one twice.
.industries works well if
- Your registered name ends in Industries, so the domain reads as the company name rather than as a description of your sector.
- The .co.uk of your full name is taken or runs to thirty characters, and dropping the last word into the extension shortens it usefully.
- You own several trading brands under one industrial parent and want a group address that sits above them all.
- You are protecting the name and would rather hold the obvious variants yourself than argue about them later.
Look elsewhere if
- People will mishear it. The trailing S disappears in speech, and a customer who types "dot industry" lands nowhere at all.
- You sell to UK buyers who search locally. A .co.uk carries a geographic signal in Google that this extension does not.
- It costs roughly four times a .co.uk every year, which is hard to justify for a word most visitors will not read closely.
Serving UK customers from one site? The .co.uk is cheaper, easier to say and better for local search. See .co.uk pricing.
.industries vs .co.uk: which should you register?
For a British manufacturer these two are not close. The .co.uk is cheaper, it is what UK buyers expect, and Google reads it as a strong signal that the site is aimed at Britain. A .industries is a generic extension with no country signal at all, so it starts that race a step behind.
What .industries offers instead is the name. If the company is legally Meyer Industries Limited, then meyer.industries is shorter and cleaner than meyerindustriesltd.co.uk, and a shorter address is easier to print on a vehicle, a data sheet or a delivery note.
The practical answer for most firms is to keep the .co.uk as the site Google indexes and register the .industries as the memorable version to redirect from. That way the search signal stays where it earns its money.
| .industries | .co.uk | |
|---|---|---|
| Country signal in Google | None, treated as generic | United Kingdom |

.industries domain questions, answered
What people ask us before registering a .industries domain.
Can't find what you're looking for?
Ask us directlyNo. The extension has no eligibility rule and the registry agreement commits the operator to keeping second level registrations open to any lawful registrant. Nobody checks your sector, your SIC code or your Companies House record. The flip side is that the extension proves nothing about the site behind it, so a buyer researching a supplier will still want your company number, your address and your accreditations on the page.
A .co.uk is the better main address for almost every UK manufacturer. It costs less, buyers recognise it, and Google treats it as a clear signal that the site targets Britain, which matters on searches like "steel fabricator Midlands". A .industries suits the specific case where the company name ends in Industries and the plain .co.uk is either taken or uncomfortably long, and even then it works best as a redirect.
Some will get it wrong. The word runs to three syllables and the trailing S is the part people drop, so expect a proportion of visitors to try "dot industry" and find nothing. If most of your enquiries arrive by word of mouth or from an address printed on a van, that failure rate is a real cost. If they arrive from search, an email signature or a link, it matters far less.
The renewal price is on this page and it is roughly four times a .co.uk. Domains are an annual bill for as long as the business trades, so multiply that difference by ten years before you decide. Every registration with us includes free DNS management, email forwarding and one free 10GB mailbox, so the extension is the only variable in that comparison.
