What is a .tienda domain?
The .tienda domain means "shop" in Spanish, making it a direct match for retailers targeting Spain and Latin America. Over 500 million people speak Spanish worldwide. For UK businesses selling into Spanish-speaking markets, or native Spanish brands going online, .tienda provides a commercially loaded domain in the customer's own language.

What .tienda offers Spanish-language retail brands
Spanish-speaking commerce has no single home the way German commerce has .de. Spain trades on .es, Mexico on .com.mx, Argentina on .com.ar, Chile on .cl, and a brand selling across all of them ends up either running a different address per country or picking a neutral one. That is the gap .tienda fills: one Spanish-language address that belongs to no particular government.
It is also the most expensive of the language-based extensions in this group, at roughly twice what the German equivalent costs here, which is worth knowing before the decision is made on feel alone. Victor Manor, LLC took it live in January 2014 and it passed to Binky Moon, LLC in March 2018. Anyone may register: no Spanish residency, no local company, nothing to evidence.
The honest limit is recognition. A word in the reader's own language is warm, and warmth is not the same as familiarity. Spanish-speaking shoppers have decades of habit pointing at their national extension, and a .tienda has to earn attention that a .es gets for free.
Is .tienda the right choice for you?
We would rather sell you the right extension once than the wrong one twice.
.tienda works well if
- You sell across several Spanish-speaking countries and do not want to run and renew a different national extension for each of them.
- The name completes a phrase in Spanish, so the address reads as a description of the shop rather than as a brand with a foreign suffix attached.
- You have Spanish-language content and Spanish-speaking support in place, so the address is a promise the business can actually keep.
Look elsewhere if
- You are targeting Spain alone. A .es is the address Spanish shoppers expect and Google reads it as a Spanish site, which .tienda is not.
- This costs roughly twice a .kaufen and several times a .co.uk each year. For a market you are testing rather than committed to, that is a lot of annual outlay.
- Your customers are English-speaking. An address most of them cannot pronounce or spell after hearing it once is a permanent tax on word of mouth.
Testing Spanish-speaking markets rather than committed to them? A .com serves every one of them while you find out. See .com pricing.
.tienda vs .com: which should you register?
A .com is the default everywhere including Latin America, which is the practical case against buying a language-specific extension for a market you have not yet proved. It carries no country ties, needs no explanation, and every Spanish-speaking shopper alive has typed one.
What .tienda offers instead is a signal of intent. An address in the customer's language says this shop was built for them rather than translated for them, and that reads differently on a receipt or an advert. The sensible structure is usually both: the .com as the permanent address, the .tienda as the Spanish-language storefront, with the language targeting done properly through hreflang rather than left to the extension to imply.
.tienda domain questions, answered
What people ask us before registering a .tienda domain.
Can't find what you're looking for?
Ask us directlyNo. There is no residency requirement, no local company rule and no documentation to supply, so a UK exporter can register one directly. That is a real difference from most national extensions in the Spanish-speaking world, several of which expect a local presence or a local contact. Registration is first come, first served, and Binky Moon operates it as an open generic extension.
No. Google has stated that new gTLDs are treated the same as .com and .org, and that keywords in the extension bring no ranking advantage. Language targeting comes from the language of the content, hreflang annotations and links from Spanish-language sites. A .tienda is a branding decision with real merit and no search benefit, and it is better bought for the first reason than the second.
Only if the Spanish-speaking market is a commitment rather than an experiment. Check the annual figure on this page against .shop or a .co.uk and you will see it sits well above both, and it renews at that level indefinitely. For a shop that already has Spanish content, Spanish support and Spanish customers, that is money well spent. For a test, put the Spanish pages in a subfolder first and buy the domain once the sales exist.
