What is a .cool domain?
The .cool domain does what it says. It's informal, it's confident, and it works for brands that don't need to explain why they're worth your time. Streetwear labels, creative agencies, and pop-up event organisers use it because their audience responds to tone, not formality. Like .rocks, it doubles as a sentence: yourbrand.cool.
Who should register .cool?
Streetwear brands, creative agencies, pop-up events, and lifestyle brands with an informal, confident identity.
Why choose .cool?

How long does a word like .cool stay useful?
Koko Lake, LLC signed the .cool registry agreement with ICANN in November 2013, and the operator on record now is Binky Moon, LLC, one of the entities Identity Digital holds its extensions in. None of that history restricts you: there is no eligibility test, no sector, no form and nothing to prove.
The more interesting question is not who runs it but how long a word like this stays useful. A domain is a twenty-year decision if the business works. Cool has already survived several decades of slang cycling around it, which is a point in its favour and the reason it beats most of the extensions in its class. But the tone is fixed. yourbrand.cool cannot be dressed up for a tender document, a mortgage application or a bank.
Price is the other check. At around two and a half times a .com, this is not a cheap piece of personality, and the renewal arrives every year whether or not the campaign it was bought for is still running. Buy it for a brand whose voice is part of the product: streetwear, a club night, a creative studio, a product launch. Do not buy it as the only address a serious business has.
Is .cool the right choice for you?
We would rather sell you the right extension once than the wrong one twice.
.cool works well if
- Your brand voice is informal by design and your audience would find a corporate address slightly embarrassing.
- You are launching a product or a pop-up where the address is part of the joke, and you want it to read as a sentence: thisis.cool.
- The word you want is gone everywhere else, and pairing it with .cool produces something shorter than any available alternative.
Look elsewhere if
- You sell to procurement teams, local authorities or anyone who reads a domain as a credibility signal. This is the wrong register entirely.
- You need one address to last twenty years across a business that will grow up. Tone is much harder to change than a logo.
- Cost matters. This runs about two and a half times a .com every year, which is a lot to pay for a word rather than a service.
Need one address that works in a pitch as well as on Instagram? A .com carries both without a raised eyebrow. See .com pricing.
.cool vs .com: which should you register?
A .com is invisible, and being invisible is a feature. Nobody notices it, nobody questions it, and it does not decide what your company sounds like. A .cool is the opposite: it is a choice the reader can see you making, and it commits you to a register you will be living with for years.
The safe pattern is the one most funded brands use anyway. The .com is the address on the invoice and the .cool is the address on the poster, redirecting to the same site. That costs a few pounds a year more and removes the risk that your tone of voice ages faster than your product does.
.cool domain questions, answered
What people ask us before registering a .cool domain.
Can't find what you're looking for?
Ask us directlyNone. Identity Digital publishes no eligibility policy for .cool, the ICANN registry agreement is a standard non-sponsored one with no community registration rules, and the only eligibility form in Identity Digital's published policy list applies to .ltd rather than to this extension. Any person or organisation anywhere can register one on a first come, first served basis, for one to ten years.
It depends who is reading it, and that is the whole decision. To a streetwear customer or a club night audience it reads as confident. To a procurement officer comparing three suppliers it reads as a small business that has not thought about it. Neither reaction is wrong. If both audiences matter to you, hold a neutral address for contracts and correspondence and let .cool do the public-facing work, because you cannot make one domain speak in two voices.
The registry sets a higher wholesale price, and demand for short, expressive extensions keeps it there. Nothing technical differs: the DNS resolution, the DNSSEC support and the record types are identical to any other extension, so the premium buys the word rather than the service. Remember that it recurs. Compare the ten-year cost against a .com before committing, particularly if the domain is for a campaign rather than the business itself.
