Magento Open Source 2.4 needs PHP 8.2 or higher, MySQL 8.0 or MariaDB 10.6 or higher, Elasticsearch 7.17 or OpenSearch 2, Redis for sessions and cache, and Composer for installation. RAM matters more than CPU for most of the day. Plan for 4 GB minimum on a small shop, 8 GB or more for anything serious. Our managed cloud servers ship with the right PHP version and we set up Elasticsearch and Redis as part of the install.

Honestly, no, not in any way that will make you happy. Magento expects services like Elasticsearch and Redis that shared hosting does not provide, and the memory footprint alone rules it out. We will not sell you a £5.99 plan and pretend it will work. If you are committed to Magento, start on our smallest managed cloud server at £9.99 a month and we will help you size up from there. If your shop is small, look at WooCommerce, AbanteCart, or PrestaShop instead.

On our managed cloud servers we install Magento via Composer using the official metapackage. We set up the database, run the setup wizard with your store details, configure Elasticsearch and Redis, and set the correct cron jobs for reindexing and emails. The whole process usually finishes inside a working day. You then log into the admin and import your catalogue. We can also stage from your existing hosting and only switch DNS once you have signed off the staging URL.

It depends on traffic, catalogue size, and admin activity, not just store turnover. As a rough guide, a quiet shop with 1,000 SKUs and a couple of hundred orders a month runs fine on our smallest managed cloud server. A shop pushing 10,000 SKUs with bulk imports needs four cores and 8 GB upwards. B2B shops with logged-in pricing skew higher because every page is dynamic. We support the hosting side fully: server configuration, PHP and MySQL tuning, Elasticsearch and Redis, SSL, backups, cron, and Composer. For Magento application work (custom modules, theme development, checkout customisation, integrations) we will help where we can but we are not your Magento developer. We will also rebuild Elasticsearch indexes and warm the full-page cache before switching DNS. Most migrations finish inside a working day with no downtime. We always run on a staging URL first so you can test checkout, payment gateway responses, and admin workflow before going live.

Magento is a high-value target for credit card skimming attacks, so we take it seriously. We install only from the official Composer source, apply Magento security patches as Adobe releases them, and lock down the admin URL behind IP allow-listing where possible. Our hosting layer adds free SSL, daily backups with point-in-time restore, brute-force protection on the admin login, and modern PHP versions with security patches. Keeping Magento core, third-party modules, and Composer dependencies up to date is the single most important thing you can do.

We host Magento Open Source. It runs the same core engine as Adobe Commerce and covers what most independent shops need. Adobe Commerce adds B2B features, page builder, advanced segmentation, BI dashboards, and Adobe-supplied managed support, with licensing on top. If you genuinely need those features and have the budget, it is a good product. If you are choosing between them on price alone, Open Source is almost always the right answer and we can host it for a fraction of an Adobe Commerce contract.
