Why .technology costs less than .tech
Binky Moon, the Identity Digital subsidiary that holds several hundred extensions, took .technology into the root zone on 8 November 2013. That makes it one of the very first new extensions ever delegated, and it has been quietly available ever since with no sector test, no trade body and no local presence rule.
The pricing is the part worth knowing, because it runs against the usual assumption. A .technology is £27.99 a year here. A .tech is £44.99. The shorter extension is the dearer one, which is the reverse of what most buyers expect and the reverse of what happens with .co.uk against .uk.
