The longer answer

Why .racing asks for a seal on your homepage

Most extensions ask nothing of you once the invoice clears. .racing does. The registry requires registrants to display an Abuse Prevention and Mitigation Seal on their website, a clickable badge that takes a visitor to the registry page explaining how abuse is reported and handled. You have 120 days from registration, then a further 30 after a reminder, and if it is still absent the registry says it will investigate and reserves the right to suspend and cancel the domain.

This is not registry marketing. The commitment is written into Specification 11 of the ICANN registry agreement for .racing, the part that makes an applicant's promises contractually enforceable. There are stated exceptions for a domain that forwards elsewhere, one not used for a website, one not currently in use, and cases where the seal cannot technically be added.

The registry itself is Premier Registry Limited of Gibraltar, coordinated by Global Registry Services, with the technical operation run by GoDaddy Registry. Its sibling extensions include .win, .bid, .download, .science and .party. Delegated in March 2015. One oddity to budget for: transferring a .racing to us costs more than registering a fresh one.

Eligibility

Who is allowed to register .racing?

Anyone may register a .racing, but the registry requires you to display its Abuse Prevention and Mitigation Seal on your homepage within 120 days of registration.

What the seal is
A small badge placed prominently on your website. Clicking it takes the visitor to the registry page setting out how abuse on .racing is reported and dealt with. The registry publishes the images and the embed code, in colour and in black and white.
The 120 day clock
After registration the registry emails your administrative, technical and billing contacts to say the seal is needed. You get 120 days, then a further 30 after a reminder, before the domain is flagged as in breach of the registration terms.
When it does not apply
The registry lists exceptions for a domain that forwards to another address, one not used for a website, one not currently in use, and any case where the seal cannot technically be included. You email the registry to have a domain marked as compliant.
If you ignore it
The registry states it will investigate the domain and, if it finds a breach of the acceptable use policy, reserves the right to suspend and cancel it. The obligation is not just registry policy: it is incorporated into the ICANN registry agreement and enforceable through ICANN's dispute process.

Rules taken from the .racing registry APM Seal page. Registry policy can change, so check before you buy if the answer matters to you.

Not sure whether you qualify? Ask us before you order and we will check the registry rules with you. We would rather answer the question than take an order the registry will refuse.

The honest answer

Is .racing the right choice for you?

We would rather sell you the right extension once than the wrong one twice.

.racing works well if

  • You run a circuit, a karting track, a race series or a syndicate and want an address that names the sport in a single word.
  • Your brand is the name and the sport is the qualifier, so teamname.racing reads as a proper title rather than a description.
  • You maintain your own site and adding a small badge to the footer within four months is no trouble at all.

Look elsewhere if

  • Nobody will touch the site after launch. The seal is a task somebody has to complete inside 120 days, and forgetting it puts the domain at risk.
  • You are a UK business selling to UK customers. A .co.uk carries a geographic signal in Google that .racing does not, at about a third of the cost.
  • You might move the domain to another registrar later. Transferring a .racing costs more than registering a new one, which is the wrong way round.

Running a local karting track or a club with a UK-only audience? A .co.uk costs less and asks nothing of your homepage. See .co.uk pricing.

Head to head

.racing vs .co.uk: which should you register?

The obligation is what separates these, not the word. A .co.uk is the cheapest thing we sell, renews at the same figure indefinitely, tells Google you are British, and never asks you to put anything on your website. A .racing costs roughly three times as much and comes with a homepage requirement and a 120 day deadline attached.

If the name you want is available on both, take the .co.uk and stop thinking about it. .racing is worth the extra where the sport is the brand and the audience is international: a series, a team, a sim racing community, a manufacturer. In that case register the .co.uk alongside it anyway, so a lapse in the seal obligation never costs you your only address.

FAQ

.racing domain questions, answered

What people ask us before registering a .racing domain.

Can't find what you're looking for?

Ask us directly

Yes, in most cases. The registry requires registrants to display its Abuse Prevention and Mitigation Seal on the homepage, linking back to the registry page about reporting abuse. You get 120 days from registration, plus a further 30 after a reminder, before the domain is flagged as in breach. Exceptions are published for domains that forward elsewhere, are not used for a website, or are not in use. Everyone else needs the badge.

IANA records the sponsoring organisation as Premier Registry Limited, based in Gibraltar, with the technical operation contracted to GoDaddy Registry. The registry presents itself publicly as part of Global Registry Services, whose portfolio also includes .win, .bid, .download, .science, .party and .stream. That grouping is worth knowing, because a visitor who recognises those extensions will read yours alongside them rather than alongside the sport.

No. The registry describes the extension as being for the racing community broadly, and horse racing, cycling, running events, sailing and sim racing all sit comfortably under it alongside cars and bikes. There is no eligibility check on the discipline or on anything else. The seal obligation applies to all of them equally, so a horse racing syndicate has the same 120 day homework as a Formula Ford team.

Free 10GB Mailbox

Email authentication

The Free Mailbox Sends Your Email. DKIM Proves It Was You.

Your domain comes with a real 10 GB mailbox. Signing what you send is the part that happens on a mail server rather than in DNS.

  • SPF

    Free with your domain

    Sender Policy Framework. A DNS record naming the servers allowed to send mail for your domain. It vouches for the connection rather than the message, so it stops verifying as soon as anyone forwards what you sent.

  • DKIM

    Needs a mail server that signs

    DomainKeys Identified Mail. Your mail server signs every message on the way out, and the receiving server checks that signature against a key in your DNS. It covers the message itself, so it survives a forward where SPF cannot.

    DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed;
      d=yourdomain.co.uk; s=default; t=1790160000;
      h=from:to:subject:date:message-id;
      bh=2jUSOH9NhtVGCQWNr9BrIAPreKQjO6Sn7XIkfJVOzv8=;
      b=NpX0k2f1oW8tR6yQzLm4cVb7JhTdEu...
    The header a signing mail server adds. d= is your domain and b= is the signature proving the message came from it. A domain on its own has no server to write that header.
  • DMARC

    Meaningful once DKIM is in place

    Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting and Conformance. The policy telling a receiving server what to do with mail that fails those checks, and where to send the reports. It only bites once SPF or DKIM lines up with the address you send from.
