The cost and small print behind a .hn domain
Honduras runs its extension through Red de Desarrollo Sostenible Honduras, a sustainable development network rather than a commercial registry, and the price reflects a small market rather than a fashionable one. A .hn is one of the dearer extensions we sell, several times a .co.uk and well above a .com, and that gap does not narrow at renewal.
Read as English letters it is short and it can carry meaning, which is why it turns up outside Honduras. Google does not join in. Its published list of country codes treated as generic runs from .ad to .ws, and Honduras is not on it, so a .hn address is read as a site intended for Honduras.
The registrant agreement repays a read before you order. It obliges you to keep your registration details true, complete, accurate and reliable for the whole term and to update them annually, and it lets the registry suspend or cancel a name where those details are false, incomplete or out of date, with no refund and no prior notice. It also allows RDS-HN to change its policies on fifteen calendar days notice published at nic.hn, and says it is not obliged to tell you any other way.

- Nothing in the published registrant agreement requires a Honduran address, company or citizenship, and RDS-HN accredits registrars outside Honduras. Acceptance of your application is deemed to occur at the registry's principal place of business in Honduras.
- Update your details every year
- The agreement requires registration data to remain true, complete, accurate and reliable for the duration of the term, and to be maintained and updated annually. This is an ongoing obligation, not a box ticked at checkout.
- Wrong details can end it without notice
- RDS-HN reserves the right to suspend or cancel a registration where the information supplied is false, inaccurate, incomplete, unreliable or misleading, with no refund of the registration fee and no prior warning to the registrant.
- Policy changes are announced on one website
- The registry may change its policies on fifteen calendar days notice published at nic.hn, and states it is not obliged to notify registrants by any other means. Comments in that window go to the administrative contact by email.
- Your data goes public
- The agreement records that personal information about the registrant supplied to RDS-HN or an accredited registrar may be published or disclosed to third parties through a public WHOIS service run by the registry.

People shopping for a short two letter extension usually end up comparing these. The decisive difference is not price, although .hn costs several times a .co here. It is that Google names .co on its published list of country codes treated as generic and does not name .hn, so a .co site carries no country assumption while a .hn site is read as intended for Honduras.
Pick .co when you want a short address for an international audience and you care about search. Pick .hn when Honduras is real: you sell there, you operate there, or your project is based there. Buying .hn for the letters alone means paying a premium price for a geographic signal you did not want, which is a strange trade to make on purpose.
