What is a .biz.pl domain?

The .biz.pl extension combines the commercial signal of "biz" with Poland's .pl country code. It's managed by NASK (the Research and Academic Computer Network) alongside all other Polish domains. For businesses operating in Poland that want a commercial identity without using the generic .pl, .biz.pl provides a clear business context. It's particularly useful when the shorter .pl or .com.pl is already registered.

Who should register .biz.pl?

Polish businesses, UK companies expanding into Poland, and commercial organisations targeting the Polish market.

Why choose .biz.pl?

  • Clear business signal for Poland
  • Alternative when .pl is taken
  • Managed by NASK (Poland's registry)

Where .biz.pl sits in the Polish naming order

NASK, the research institute that runs Poland's registry, maintains three tiers of name. There is the plain .pl at the second level. There are regional endings such as waw.pl and slask.pl. And there is a list of functional domains administered by NASK, of which biz.pl is one, alongside com.pl, net.pl, org.pl, sklep.pl and around thirty others.

Nothing in the .pl regulations restricts who may hold one. They define the applicant simply as an entity or natural person who has submitted a tender through a partner, which is the Polish word for registrar. No residency, no company registration, no documents. Read the small print, though: NASK states that only the Polish version of the regulations is legally valid and that the English translation is for information only.

Where biz.pl belongs is third in the queue. Polish buyers look for the bare .pl first and com.pl second. Choosing biz.pl usually means both of those have gone, and the honest question then is whether your exact name is worth having on a third-choice ending, or whether a different name on .pl would serve the business better.

The honest answer

Is .biz.pl the right choice for you?

We would rather sell you the right extension once than the wrong one twice.

.biz.pl works well if

  • You are trading in Poland and both the .pl and the com.pl for your name are taken, but the exact name matters more to you than the ending.
  • You want a Polish address without setting up a Polish entity, which the registry rules allow because there is no residency test at all.
  • You are protecting a brand across the Polish namespace and want the commercial-looking variants sitting under one account.

Look elsewhere if

  • The bare .pl is still free for your name. Take it: Polish visitors read .pl as the default and biz.pl as the fallback.
  • Your customers are British. A Polish extension does nothing in Google UK and adds a language and content decision you may not want to make.
  • The address has to survive being read out on the phone. Three parts with a full stop in the middle of "biz dot p l" is a lot to dictate to somebody driving.

Is the name more important than the market? A .com travels further than a third-choice Polish ending. See .com pricing.

Head to head

.biz.pl vs .com: which should you register?

Polish buyers read a .com as an international address, which is fine if that is what you are. They read a biz.pl as a Polish business that could not get the shorter versions. Both are honest positions. They are just different ones.

The tiebreaker is what you are optimising for. If Polish search visibility matters, any .pl ending gives a geographic signal a .com cannot, and biz.pl inherits it from the country code above it. If the brand travels beyond Poland, the .com is the address to build on and the biz.pl becomes a redirect for the Polish campaign. What we would not do is put the main site on a third-choice ending purely because the name happened to be free there.

No. NASK's .pl regulations set no residency or incorporation requirement and define the applicant simply as an entity or natural person submitting a tender through a registrar. A UK company or a private individual can hold one. Worth knowing before you rely on the English text: NASK states that only the Polish version of the regulations is legally valid and that the English translation is provided for information, so anything unusual should be checked against the Polish original.

com.pl is better known, and that is the whole difference. Both are functional domains administered by NASK, both carry the same rules and the same absence of eligibility checks, and neither ranks differently from the other. Polish visitors have simply seen com.pl more often. If both are free for your name, take com.pl. If com.pl has gone and biz.pl has not, biz.pl is a reasonable second choice, and a better one than padding the name out to fit a shorter ending.

Any .pl ending gives Google a Polish geographic signal, and biz.pl inherits it from the country code it sits under. That is a real advantage over a .com for searches made in Poland, and it works the way a .co.uk works for Britain. It is one signal among many, though, so a biz.pl site with thin Polish content will not outrank a strong .com. The ending helps. The language and the content decide.
